Men's Health Week and Mateship!

14/06/2018

If you’ve ever been out in Hamilton NSW on a Thursday night you may have noticed a group of men running through the streets. While appearances may deceive, they aren’t a sports team or a group of elite athletes - they’re simply a group of local dads out for some exercise.

The Hamilton Running Dads, or HaRD As, as they prefer to be known, are a group of up to 20 men, including our own Dr James Cobb, who meet up once a week to pound the pavement and catch up with their mates, with many joining as a result of their connection with Hamilton Public School. Although it may seem a simple idea, the importance can’t be underestimated. Statistics highlighted for Men’s Health Week, which begins on June 11, show that men are more likely to die from heart disease than other disease, while inactive men are 60 per cent more likely to suffer from depression than men who are active.

While HaRD As’ weekly runs are good for the body, the mateship within the group is good for the soul, with the running track often leading to The Blind Monk where the friendships are further cemented over a few beers.

Thanks to our friends at Hamilton Local Community Newspaper for this great article!
